Spotify for Latinx Heritage Month

In commemoration of 2020’s Latinx Heritage Month, I was commissioned by Spotify USA to design 3 different artworks for the campaign. I was assigned to illustrate in a colorful and radiant way my take on Dance & Movement + Rock (Latin) as genres, as well as one for ‘California Love’ Podcast by Walter Thompson-Hernandez.

These artworks were adapted to Spotify’s genres playlists as well as to numerous different OOH displays across the USA including billboards, murals and bus stops in NYC, Miami and Los Angeles.

As part of the project, a video of my studio as well as the process behind the podcast’s hand-painted artwork was shot in Mérida, Yucatán, and was narrated on voice-over by Walter. This video focused on capturing not only the behind the scenes of how the piece was drafted and ultimately created, but it also highlights some of the keywords used by Walter in his podcast, from race struggle to finding one’s self on self-expression to speaking for those who share similar stories to ours. The result is beautifully showcased on a small clip that was featured on Spotify’s social media channels.
